Awakening/The beginning
In the distance a small water processing plant could be seen, its smooth lines blended into the scenery it's surfaces reflecting the clean light. The soft burbling of the water mixed with the chatter of birds and the rustling leaves filled the clean air. Sitting on the bank of the gentle stream was a young woman, her feat idly splashed the water, she had shoulder length black hair, dark blue eyes and sharp hawkish features. She seemed focused on the ripples in the water, her eyes tracked them from her toes out until the wave flattened. She shook her head, smiled and looked up at the clouds.
The sound of someone running up the bank caught the girls attention, a child was coming towards her at a terrific speed, the child had long white hair and features like the girl sitting down, who was now bracing herself for impact.
“Uliiiiii!” The little girl shouted affectionately as she launched herself at the girl, landing halfway across her lap.
“Bahhh! That hurt! What do you want Beth?” Uli asked as she tried to put herself back together after the impact.
“The old man said I could go to the fair if you took me!” Beth's face beamed.
“You shouldn't call him that Beth, and where is Sean? Why can't he take you?” Uli tilted her head and looked at her little sister.
“But he is an old man, he says so himself” Uli lifted her hand to stifle a giggle at her sisters comment, “Sean said he'd rather die, then stomped out of the house like a little girl. So please could you take me.” Beth was tugging weakly at her sisters sleeves, and looking pitiful.
Uli noticed someone else walking on the other side of the stream, a guy with scruffy brown hair , baggy trousers and shabby t-shirt. She thought for a moment that she had seen him before somewhere.
Beth noticed her sisters gaze and followed it, “Hay you!” Beth shouted across at the guy, who looked around startled, then looked up and down the bank to try and figure out who the girl was shouting at. “Yes you silly.”
“Beth!” Uli had gone bright red.
“Emmm yes?” He answered, scratching the back of his head nervously.
“Beth, stop it!” Uli was beginning to panic.
“Are you going to the fair tonight?” Beth asked the boy, completely ignoring her sisters protests.
“Errrm, yeah actually... I gotta take my kid brother...” The poor guy looked as though he was terrified, a bit like a deer in caught in the headlights of a car.
“Really. Well my sister Uli is taking me to the fair tonight, would you like to come with us? I haven't seen you before so you must be new around here.” Beth leant forward to get a better look at the guy.
“Well, mmm I'm Joshua”
Uli relented to her sister although still blushing she managed to speak up “I'm Uli, my sister here is Beth, and she happens to have a remarkably big mouth.”
“Oh don't worry, my brothers little better...”
“So. Well meet here at six.” Beth demanded. The other two seemed to have little choice but to accept the kids orders.
Joshua carried on into town and Uli descended on her sister.
“Oh Uli, regardless of what you say I know it's what you wanted.” Beth said sneakily, escaping being shouted at.
