My Word

“What was the outcome of your meeting?” The golden cylinder that bobbed along side asked in a deep reverberating tone a blue ring of LEDs about three quarters of the way to the top of cylinder flashing with each syllable. They were stood next to the office coffee machine.

“Turns out the team in charge of rolling out the fusion scrubbers is delayed.” A large man with a bald patch said with a forlorn look on his face.

“Why am I not surprised, that teams never able to stay on schedule I blame that lunatic they have in charge.” The golden cylinder somehow expressed a certain amount of glee in the exclamation.

“They’re note sure if they’re going to be able to get it back on schedule.” The large man sighed and looked into his mug, it said “Best Boss” on the side facing away from him and was wearing a knitted jumper that had a scene from an ancient arcade game on it.

“Why the long face?” A person with four robot legs that made it look a bit like a spider with a human torso. “Don’t tell me, you had your bonus slashed again, am I right?”

The large man smiled, “No, no just Reg’s team is behind again.” Then he sighed.

“Ah well, not surprising I heard they had a last minute change issued by one of the central suppliers. Hard to keep on top of that kind of thing especially given how sensitive the fusion work is.” The four legged spider person scuttled over to the coffee machine and started pouring a cup.

“Really? Nobody mentioned that!” The large man looked suprised.

“Well of course not were they even invited?” The spider person asked.

“They wouldn’t show up even if they were.” The gold cylinder bobbed up and down in a slight fury.

“Well it’s hard to show up for meetings when you’re triple booked on a quiet day.”

The large man stroked his chin a moment “I wonder if I can help them out.” He said as though having a sudden thought and headed out of the door.

“Lost cause” The Golden Cylinders lights seemed indicate a rotating movement and the spider person rolled their eyes,

“Really you need to give people more of a chance Harold, it really doesn’t help your prospects always being so negative.”

“I can’t help it if everyone else is incompetent.”

“My word.”
